New 2023 application requirement: Resumes

Over the years, some of our scholarship applicants have attached an optional resume to their written application.  We’ve found these so useful that we’ve added this as a REQUIRED element.  In addition, we’ve streamlined the application by eliminating the entire section on honors, awards, jobs, and activities.  The written application opens December 1st.  We’re looking forward to it and hope you are too.

Pandemic Considerations

GMFF continues to award scholarships consistent with our typical annual schedule through the pandemic, but with changes to our process and requirements.   We will continue to wave the in-person interview and volunteer requirement for the 2021/2022 school calendar.  In the meantime:

We are exploring the possibility of virtual interviews with applicants using our online application as a means of assessing the fairness and feasibility.

We will monitor health officials’ guidance and return to the volunteer hour requirement when it is deemed safe.

2021/2022 online applications open on December 1, 2020!

Good luck to 2016-2017 Recipients!

Sixty-nine (69) outstanding candidates submitted applications for the Last Dollar Scholarship this April.  The applications were so good, 44 students made it through to the interview round with our board of directors.  While the decisions were tough, we awarded 29 new scholarships for the 2016-2017 school year.  Including our returning recipients, 33 students are sponsored and attending these universities: UNC, NC State, NC A&T, Morehouse, Pembroke, Louisburg, ECU, UNC-G, and UNC-W.

Best of luck to all in the new school year!
